Brian Quinn spent 35 years teaching music and retired from the profession in 2006.  Since that time he has devoted more time to music, particularly writing, and this is his third major choral work, the others being the Boston Gloria (2010), The Mass for Hope (2014) and now the Mass - The Open Door, dedicated to those Christians who are not allowed to practise their faith openly.

In addition to writing choral music, he has written a number of pieces for solo piano.
